This series of paintings and prints is my response to the Caribbean Civilization which preceded by thousands of years before the arrival of the Europeans. The Conquistadors' arrival was a harsh and drastic shock and our ancestors’ society peaceful way of life was disrupted forever and their culture was controlled to the point of quasi annihilation. In spite of the almost complete disappearance of its people, The Taino culture remains an essential component of the Caribbean heritage, as the roots of its identity. It is therefore essential to recognize our Amerindian origins, and set them in sequence with the African heritage which remains a fundamental part of our culture, associated to a posterior substantial contribution from East Indians and Chinese people.
